Kiewit Infrastructure
We build with purpose
One of North America's largest heavy civil and infrastructure builders, delivering major transit alliances, commuter rail upgrades, high-speed guideways, and Class I railroad corridors.
About Kiewit Infrastructure
Tracing its history back to 1884 when Peter and Andrew Kiewit founded a masonry partnership in Omaha, Nebraska, Kiewit Corporation has evolved into one of the largest and most respected employee-owned engineering and construction enterprises in North America. Ranked consistently at the top of Engineering News-Record (ENR) contractor lists, Kiewit operates through specialized subsidiaries—including Kiewit Infrastructure Co., Kiewit Infrastructure West Co., and Mass. Electric Construction Co. (a Kiewit subsidiary specializing in rail systems)—employing more than 31,000 personnel across the United States and Canada.
In the railway and transit sectors, Kiewit functions as a self-performing heavy civil contractor, systems integrator, and Design-Build / Progressive Design-Build / P3 joint venture lead. The firm constructs the complete spectrum of rail infrastructure: mass grading, trackbed earthworks, bridge structures, deep bored tunneling, cut-and-cover underground stations, ballasted track and direct fixation slab track, traction power substations (TPSS), and overhead catenary systems (OCS).
Kiewit’s railway portfolio includes signature projects across the United States and Canada. Notable achievements include the civil construction of Brightline Florida’s Phase 2 passenger rail expansion to Orlando International Airport, multiple rail lots for Seattle Sound Transit’s Link Light Rail expansions (including East Link and South Extension), the Valley Metro Light Rail in Phoenix, the Honolulu Rail Transit elevated guideway in Hawaii, the Eglinton Crosstown LRT in Toronto, and ongoing infrastructure upgrades and emergency bridge replacements for North American Class I freight railroads (Union Pacific and BNSF).
