Procurement & Tenders
Feasibility & Preliminary Engineering Studies
SNCFT is seeking qualified Tunisian and/or international railway engineering consultancies or consortia for the study of a proposed North–South High-Performance Railway Corridor in Tunisia.
The opportunity covers Phase I – Feasibility Studies and Preliminary Engineering Studies.
Applicants are required to be appropriately qualified in the railway transport sector and demonstrate experience on studies of comparable complexity and technical characteristics.
This procurement is the preselection stage. Following evaluation of applications, SNCFT will establish a shortlist of qualified consultants. The subsequent selection of the consultant or consortium responsible for undertaking the study will be carried out through a consultation process among the shortlisted candidates.
The detailed conditions of participation, methodology and general evaluation criteria are provided in SNCFT's official Preselection Terms of Reference.
Project Overview
The Tunisia North–South High-Performance Railway is a major proposed railway project intended to establish a modern high-performance rail corridor connecting northern and southern Tunisia.
The strategic concept envisages connectivity from Bizerte in the north toward Ben Guerdane in the south, serving major urban areas, public infrastructure and logistics centres along the corridor. The wider vision also considers connections with neighbouring railway networks, including Algeria, and an extension toward Ras Jdir near the Libyan border, together with connectivity to the Port of Zarzis.
The project forms part of Tunisia’s strategic infrastructure programme under the 2026–2030 Development Plan and is intended to improve national and regional connectivity, support passenger and freight mobility, strengthen logistics links and contribute to economic development across Tunisia.
The project is currently at the feasibility and preliminary engineering stage. In August 2026, the Société Nationale des Chemins de Fer Tunisiens (SNCFT) launched a process to shortlist qualified Tunisian and international engineering consultants or consortia to undertake the first phase of feasibility and preliminary engineering studies.
The final railway alignment has not yet been confirmed. It will be determined through the studies based on technical, economic, social and environmental considerations. Detailed parameters including route length, operating speed, stations, railway systems and implementation programme therefore remain subject to further development.
