Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group
A breath of fresh air for rail infrastructure
Leading full-service railway infrastructure contractor and technology developer renowned for engineering the world's longest rail tunnels and pioneering modular slab track systems.
About Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group
Formed in 2012 through the merger of two historic railway engineering companies—Rhomberg Rail (founded in 1938 in Bregenz, Austria) and Sersa Group (founded in 1948 in Zurich, Switzerland)—Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group (RSRG) is one of Europe’s foremost privately owned, full-service railway engineering contractors. Employing over 3,000 highly skilled railway engineers, mechanics, and track technicians, RSRG operates major subsidiaries across Austria, Switzerland, Germany, the United Kingdom, Ireland, North America, and Australia.
Rhomberg Sersa Rail Group covers the complete railway infrastructure spectrum: slab track construction, conventional ballasted track renewal, switch and crossing (S&C) replacement, overhead catenary electrification, tunnel refurbishment, signalling installation, and mobile rail milling. The group owns and deploys an extensive fleet of specialized heavy machinery, including high-output universal tamping machines, ballast undercutting units, mobile flash-butt welding vehicles, and state-of-the-art track measuring systems.
RSRG is globally recognized for its technical leadership in complex mega-tunnels and high-speed corridors. As a core member of the Transtec Gotthard consortium, Rhomberg Sersa delivered the high-speed ballastless slab track, logistics, and systems for Switzerland’s 57-kilometer Gotthard Base Tunnel—the world’s longest and deepest railway tunnel—as well as the Lötschberg and Ceneri Base Tunnels. The group is also an industry innovator, having engineered the proprietary IVES (Intelligent, Versatile, Efficient, Solid) slab track system, the V-Cons ballast renewal method, and advanced digital site management tools.
