Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp)
Building the nation's premier transit backbone
Malaysia's national transit infrastructure owner and project delivery agency behind the multibillion-dollar Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit network—including the Kajang Line, Putrajaya Line, planned Circle Line (MRT3), and the cross-border RTS Link to Singapore.
About Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp)
Established in September 2011 and fully owned by the Minister of Finance (Incorporated), Mass Rapid Transit Corporation Sdn Bhd (MRT Corp) is the statutory developer and asset owner of Malaysia’s flagship urban rail transit network. MRT Corp took over project ownership and development responsibilities of the Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) master project from the Land Public Transport Commission (SPAD / APAD) to modernize mass passenger mobility across the Greater Kuala Lumpur conurbation.
MRT Corp’s portfolio encompasses the delivery of world-scale driverless heavy rapid transit lines. The agency oversaw the engineering, tunneling, systems procurement, and commissioning of the 51-kilometer MRT Kajang Line (SBK Line) in 2017, followed by the complete opening of the 57.7-kilometer MRT Putrajaya Line (PYL) in 2023. Together, these corridors feature over 135 kilometers of elevated segmental box girder viaducts, 23 kilometers of mined and bored twin tunnels through complex karstic limestone (excavated using specialized Variable Density Tunnel Boring Machines), and 65 passenger stations.
Beyond the initial lines, MRT Corp manages the project delivery of the MRT Circle Line (MRT3)—a planned 51-kilometer orbital loop connecting the radial transit spines of Greater Kuala Lumpur—and serves as the Malaysian infrastructure company for the 4-kilometer Johor Bahru–Singapore Rapid Transit System (RTS) Link across the Johor Strait, integrating automated border control complexes with cross-border light rail transit. Once physical infrastructure and systems are commissioned, MRT Corp entrusts passenger operations and maintenance to Prasarana Malaysia Berhad via its operating arm, Rapid Rail.
