🇹🇭 First Siemens–Bozankaya Metro Train Unveiled for Bangkok Orange Line

🇹🇭 The first new Siemens Mobility–Bozankaya Inspiro metro train for Bangkok’s MRT Orange Line has been unveiled in Turkey, marking a major milestone for the project. The fleet will comprise 32 three-car trainsets, manufactured by Bozankaya using systems and components supplied by Siemens Mobility. The new trains will undergo testing in Turkey, Germany and subsequently Bangkok before entering operation on the Orange Line. The wider contract also includes signalling, communications, platform screen doors and maintenance services, continuing the partnership between Siemens Mobility and Bozankaya following their earlier delivery of trains for Bangkok’s Green Line

A major rolling stock milestone has been reached for Bangkok’s MRT Orange Line, with the first new three-car metro train produced by Siemens Mobility and Bozankaya completed in Turkey.

The train is the first of 32 three-car trainsets being supplied for the Orange Line, which will form an important new east–west rapid transit corridor across the Thai capital.

The first trainset was presented at Bozankaya’s manufacturing facility in Ankara in August 2026 following preliminary checks. It is being sent to Germany for further testing before eventually being delivered to Thailand.

A second trainset is meanwhile undergoing testing in Turkey and is expected to become the first of the new fleet to arrive in Bangkok, with delivery planned for late November 2026.

Once in Thailand, the trains will undergo an extensive programme of system and operational testing ahead of the start of Orange Line operations.

32 New Three-Car Metro Trains

The new rolling stock forms part of the major systems package awarded for Bangkok’s MRT Orange Line.

Siemens Mobility, working with consortium partners including Turkish rolling stock manufacturer Bozankaya and ST Engineering Urban Solutions, is delivering 32 three-car metro trains together with a wider package of railway systems.

The trains are being manufactured at Bozankaya’s facility in Ankara, continuing the industrial partnership between Siemens Mobility and Bozankaya on Bangkok’s urban rail network.

The Orange Line trains will incorporate systems and components supplied through the consortium, with Siemens Mobility playing a major role in the engineering, integration and commissioning of the railway systems.

Integrated Railway Systems Package

The contract extends considerably beyond the supply of rolling stock.

The Orange Line programme includes the design, installation and integration of mechanical and electrical railway systems, including key train control, signalling and telecommunications technologies.

This integrated approach brings together rolling stock and railway systems as part of the delivery of the new metro corridor.

The programme also includes long-term maintenance services, supporting the fleet and railway systems after the start of operations.

Bangkok Orange Line

Bangkok’s Orange Line is being developed as a major east–west mass transit corridor.

The first section to enter operation will be the 22.5 km eastern section between Thailand Cultural Centre and Yaek Rom Klao, comprising both underground and elevated infrastructure.

Trial operations are expected to begin in late 2027, with commercial passenger services currently planned for early 2028.

The western section will subsequently extend the railway from Thailand Cultural Centre towards Bang Khun Non, taking the Orange Line through central Bangkok.

When the complete corridor is operational, the Orange Line will provide an important interchange with other parts of Bangkok’s expanding MRT network.

Siemens and Bozankaya Continue Bangkok Partnership

The Orange Line is not the first Bangkok rolling stock programme jointly delivered by Siemens Mobility and Bozankaya.

The companies previously worked together to supply 22 four-car metro trains for Bangkok’s BTS Green Line.

Those trains were also manufactured at Bozankaya’s Ankara facility, with Siemens supplying major systems including bogies, traction and braking equipment and auxiliary systems, as well as undertaking engineering and commissioning activities.

The earlier programme played an important role in developing Bozankaya’s metro manufacturing capability and established the industrial partnership that is now continuing with the Orange Line fleet.
