SYSTRA Türkiye has secured a new contract to deliver the detailed design for a 6 km extension of Istanbul’s M14 Metro Line, extending the route towards Kazım Karabekir, Topağacı and Ümraniye Sports Village on the city’s Asian side.
The new Kazım Karabekir–Topağacı–Ümraniye Sports Village section will extend the existing Altunizade–Çamlıca Mosque–Bosna Boulevard section of the M14, strengthening public transport connectivity across Istanbul’s growing metro network.
Under the new appointment, SYSTRA Türkiye will provide execution design services as designer to the Çelikler–Fernas–Güryapı Joint Venture, with Türkiye’s General Directorate of Infrastructure Investments (AYGM) identified by SYSTRA as the final client.
6 km Extension with Four Underground Stations
SYSTRA has confirmed that the new M14 section will comprise approximately 6 km of metro infrastructure, including:
- Four underground stations
- Two viaducts
- One depot
- A planned operating frequency of approximately one train every four minutes
The combination of underground infrastructure and viaduct sections makes the extension a significant multidisciplinary metro engineering project involving civil works, structures, railway systems, stations and operational interfaces.
Integration with Istanbul’s M12 Metro
An important feature of the project will be its integration with the M12 Ümraniye–Ataşehir–Göztepe Metro Line, providing additional interchange opportunities and improving connectivity across Istanbul’s Asian-side metro network.
SYSTRA is already involved in the M12 programme, where the company says it has been providing Systems Engineering services since 2020. The latest M14 appointment therefore expands SYSTRA’s existing involvement in Istanbul’s urban rail development.
Supporting Istanbul’s Expanding Metro Network
Once completed, the extension is expected to provide better access to the districts along the corridor while supporting more reliable, high-capacity public transport and helping reduce road congestion.
SYSTRA Türkiye General Manager Paolo Occidente said the project represents another opportunity for the company to contribute to Istanbul’s mobility ambitions and improve connections for passengers across the city.
The appointment also adds another major urban rail project to SYSTRA Türkiye’s portfolio and demonstrates the continuing investment in expanding Istanbul’s extensive metro network.
Project at a glance: approximately 6 km, 4 underground stations, 2 viaducts, 1 depot, with trains planned to operate at approximately 4-minute intervals. The design consultant is SYSTRA Türkiye, working for the Çelikler–Fernas–Güryapı JV, with AYGM as final client.
