Ho Chi Minh City is progressing the development of Urban Railway Line 6, with an international consultancy joint venture appointed to review the projectβs Feasibility Study Report and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED).
Oriental Consultants Global (OC Global), together with Royal Haskoning, Haskoning Vietnam and Cuu Long Construction Consultancy Joint Stock Company, has signed a consulting contract with Ho Chi Minh Cityβs Management Authority for Urban Railways (MAUR) for Urban Railway Line 6.
The contract was signed on 4 August 2026 and covers consulting services for the review of the Feasibility Study Report and Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) for the project.
Royal Haskoning is serving as the lead company of the joint venture, while OC Global is participating as a JV member.
23 km Urban Railway Corridor
Phase 1 of Ho Chi Minh City Urban Railway Line 6 will extend approximately 23 km, connecting the area around Tan Son Nhat International Airport with Phu Huu.
The project is planned to become an important part of Ho Chi Minh Cityβs expanding urban railway network and will provide a major public transport corridor connecting the city with the airport.
The railway is expected to improve mobility for residents and visitors while strengthening the wider public transport network of Ho Chi Minh City.
OC Global to Review Railway Systems
As part of the consultancy assignment, OC Global will be responsible for reviewing the design of key railway systems.
Its scope includes:
- Track
- Rolling stock
- Signalling
- Railway power supply systems
The assignment brings OC Global’s railway systems expertise into the technical review process as the project progresses through feasibility and front-end engineering development.
Future Connection to Long Thanh Airport
Urban Railway Line 6 also has an important role within Ho Chi Minh City’s longer-term integrated railway network.
The line is planned to connect with the Thu ThiemβLong Thanh Railway at Phu Huu in the future.
This connection is expected to enable rail connectivity between Tan Son Nhat International Airport and Long Thanh International Airport, strengthening integration between urban rail and the wider regional railway network.
Project Financed Through Municipal Budget
Urban Railway Line 6 is being financed through the Ho Chi Minh City municipal budget.
OC Global highlighted that the appointment represents its first consulting services contract for an urban railway project in Vietnam financed through the country’s domestic public budget.
The company sees the project as an opportunity to expand its involvement in non-ODA-funded urban railway development in Vietnam.
With Ho Chi Minh City pursuing significant expansion of its urban railway infrastructure, Line 6 is set to form an important component of the city’s future transport network while providing strategic connectivity between the city and its major international airports.
