Full Job Description
Your future Role
This position offers the opportunity to shape safe, capable, and repeatable installation processes across Alstom’s wayside and onboard signalling projects. You will connect signalling design with site and vehicle realities, reduce installation risk, strengthen supplier and subcontractor capability, and ensure that special processes, tooling, controls, and competencies are ready to deliver quality installations in line with programme commitments.
As Special Process Expert, you will own the technical framework for assigned installation special processes across wayside and onboard signalling, from requirements and risk analysis through qualification, deployment, control, supplier and subcontractor support, technology transfer, and continuous improvement. You will act as a key technical reference while ensuring full compliance with the Alstom Quality System, EHS requirements, signalling installation rules, and applicable external standards.
We’ll look to you for:
We value passion and attitude as well as experience. The following responsibilities will help you succeed and grow in this role:
- Manage installation risk through Process FMEA and associated improvement action plans, and foster generic FMEAs for standard wayside and onboard signalling installation processes.
- Define Design for Installation requirements and rules for the tooling, test equipment, access, handling, cabling, termination, mounting, and site or vehicle means needed to start installation.
- Qualify the product/installation-process pair and the associated field means in line with the wayside or onboard signalling design.
- Support Sourcing and Supplier Quality Development teams in qualifying and monitoring suppliers and subcontractors concerned by installation special processes, and contribute to their development.
- Manage the evolution of quality-control processes dedicated to wayside and onboard signalling installation, including inspection and installation-record requirements.
- Ensure deployment and validation of new installation processes in line with signalling product, site, vehicle, and project planning.
- Issue and maintain relevant installation instructions, qualification records, control plans, and Quality System documents.
- Manage technicians who may be assigned to the role, setting priorities and supporting their technical development across wayside and onboard activities.
- Support transfer of technology for signalling installation special processes through documentation, validation of methods and means, and training of field teams, suppliers, and subcontractors.
- Comply with Alstom EHS requirements, railway-site and vehicle-working rules, and applicable external standards.
All about you
- Degree in installation, railway systems, signalling, electrical, electronics, mechanical, or a comparable engineering discipline, or equivalent relevant professional experience.
- Five to eight years of experience in Installation, Field Operations, Signalling, Quality, Testing and Commissioning, or Supply Chain, involving wayside or onboard signalling equipment.
- Demonstrated experience with installation special-process qualification, validation, control, and continuous improvement.
- Practical knowledge of Process FMEA, risk-reduction action plans, control plans, capability assessment, root-cause analysis, and corrective actions.
- Experience defining Design for Installation requirements and specifying, qualifying, or validating installation tooling, test equipment, methods, and field means.
- Experience supporting supplier and subcontractor qualification, quality follow-up, audits, and development in collaboration with Sourcing and SQD teams.
- Working knowledge of Quality Management Systems, controlled installation documentation, qualification records, and applicable railway signalling standards.
- Experience deploying new installation processes in accordance with wayside and onboard product and project milestones.
- Experience supporting technology transfer through installation documentation, validation of methods and means, training, and field handover.
- Awareness of EHS obligations and the ability to apply Alstom, rail-site, depot, vehicle, and external safety and environmental standards.
- Strong technical expertise in assigned installation special processes and their interactions with wayside and onboard signalling design, equipment, cabling, tooling, test equipment, access constraints, installers, and inspection methods.
- Ability to analyse installation risks, define robust controls, interpret field data, and lead structured problem-solving and improvement actions.
- Ability to translate signalling design intent into practical installation requirements, acceptance criteria, and qualification plans for wayside sites and onboard vehicles.
- Strong organization, configuration control, prioritization, documentation, and follow-through, with close attention to detail.
- Clear communication and influencing skills when working with Signalling Engineering, Installation, Field Operations, Quality, Sourcing, SQD, Testing and Commissioning, suppliers, subcontractors, and EHS stakeholders.
- Ability to train and coach technicians, installers, supervisors, and supplier or subcontractor personnel on installation requirements, controls, and good practices.
- Leadership capability to coordinate technical activities and manage technicians who may report to the role.
- Collaborative, proactive working style with ownership from requirement definition through qualification, site or vehicle deployment, support, and improvement.
- Fluent in English, with strong professional communication, facilitation, training, and presentation capability.
- Availability to support wayside sites, depots, vehicles, suppliers, and subcontractors as required.
- Recognized qualification or certification related to signalling installation, the assigned special process, quality, auditing, Lean, or Six Sigma.
- Experience leading installation-process transfers between projects, sites, depots, vehicle platforms, suppliers, or subcontractors.
- Knowledge of Alstom wayside and onboard signalling products, installation processes, Quality System requirements, and EHS standards.
